A Place for Kids and Birds
May 27th was Make Your Own Birdhouse Day at Blue Hill Consolidated School !
Twenty-four 3rd grade students and their teachers gathered along the front sidewalk to listen to Charlie Cannon, the Holbrook Island Sanctuary Park Director, describe the how-tos of putting together a birdhouse.
The students were anxious to get started and began building. Although they were very anxious to get going, they were very polite to each other and helped those who needed it.
It was heard through the crowd that no one had banged their thumbs with the hammer!
As the students displayed their birdhouses, James Longo -Downeast Audubon “Bird-Extraordinaire”, gave directions for using the bird houses and took questions from the students.
Thanks to the help of the 3rd grade teachers, the Friends of Holbrook Island Sanctuary, James, and, of course, Charlie this program was a success. As Charlie promised, “It is a lot of fun and a great way to feel quite young again.”
