Belfast’s own band will bring you an experimental musical adventure that will electrify the forest and send you dancing on the lawn. Their genius ties in rhythms and beats and make you wonder what might be coming next.

This bluegrass quintet was formed in Old Town with members from Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts and Texas. They play jam

Fabulous Ferns

Join Judy Walker for a two-hour walk around Fresh Pond and discover the variety of ferns that grow along this trail. Participants will learn how to identify various species that are common to Maine by their leaf shapes, sizes, textures, and degree of complexity which varies between species.

He will bring a modern touch and interpretation to his people’s centuries old traditions of song, dance and storytelling. Enjoy this surprising performance by a member of the Penobscot Nation.

Interactive Touch Tank
The UMO touch tank will be back on site for you to explore, gently touch and learn about various local marine species. Maine Master Naturalists will provide a hands-on experience at the waterfront. Be prepared to get your feet wet!

Birdsacre Sanctuary
Personal stories and species challenges about raptors in the wild will be shared along with a discussion of their keen intelligence and sensitivity. No ambassador birds will be on site during this presentation.

Free gear will be on hand daily including snowshoes, sleds, tubes, ice skates and ski packages. Note our official “Fun Day” is February 7th and refreshments will be provided! The Maine State Park’s ski and snowshoe trailer will be located on Indian Bar Road and available for use in the Park. Free gear will be on hand daily from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm including snowshoes, sleds, tubes, ice skates and ski packages. Note our official “Fun Day” is February 7th and refreshments will be provided! During the week please call ahead about availability, trail conditions or with any other questions.

First Day Hike
Meet at the Backshore Trail parking lot on Indian Bar Road and join us for a leisurely 2.85 mile walk suitable for all ages. A great way to ring in 2026! Meet and greet at 1:00, warm beverages, water and snacks will be on hand from start to finish. The guided hike will begin at 1:30 or feel free to explore on your own during the afternoon. Please wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear. Leashed pets are welcome.
Naturalist Walk
Join Maine Master naturalists Kelly Lunt and Judy Walker for a two-hour stroll looking at flora and fauna along one of the Park’s many trails, meeting location TBD. This walk is limited to 15 people.

Tom Seymour is back with Northumbrian small pipes as well as Scottish small pipes. Enjoy his subtle melodies.
Mushrooms!
Welcome back David Porter! He has extensive knowledge and degrees in Biology and Mycology and will send you out foraging. After “the hunt” we will gather around the picnic tables and learn all about your bounty.

Historical and Scenic Hike
Join us for a three-mile walk through old estate ruins and along the shore, this is a lollipop type hike suitable for all ages. We will pause and discuss Park history along the way. These are rain or shine events, wear appropriate footwear and bring your camera! Meet at the Backshore Trail Head.
Interactive Touch Tank
The University of Maine touch tank will be on site for you to explore, gently touch and learn about various local marine species. Maine Master Naturalists will also lead you to the shorefront for a hands-on intertidal exploration of our beach. Be prepared to get your feet wet. Suitable for all ages!

Scenic and Historic Hike
Join Park Staff for a three-mile walk through old estate ruins and along the shore on a moderate hike suitable for all ages. We will pause at scenic and historic locations on this leisurely lollipop-type hike. Bring proper footwear and a camera; this event will be rain or shine and will last approximately two hours.
• Wear sturdy footwear.
• Meet at the Backshore Trailhead parking area along Indian Bar Road on Cape Rosier in Brooksville. (Three Miles Off Route 176)
Take It Outside
The Maine State Trailer will be on site. For the adventurous, try cross country skiing, snowshoeing or skating on Fresh Pond. Of course, all weather dependent. Or just gather around the fire and meet with friends, new and old. There will be an array of offerings to warm you up: cocoa, coffee and home-made soups. Sweets and much more!
First Day Hike
Please join us and ring in a healthy 2025! We will lead various hikes suitable for all ages and abilities. Meet at the Backshore Trailhead and choose your route. Warm beverages, water and snacks will be on hand from start to finish. It may not need saying but dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. Pets on a leash welcome.

Spend a summer evening in the Sanctuary with the Stillwater Serenaders, a bluegrass quintet from Old Town, with members from Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts and Texas. We’ll hear jam bluegrass, original pieces, Irish jigs and reels, and American folk standards. The Stillwater Serenaders are committed to preserving authentic sounds while respectfully exploring creative bounds. This will be a musical adventure!
The Importance of Seaweed
Please welcome Susan Hand Shetterly, author of Seaweed Chronicles, Notes on the Landscape of Home and other titles, and Jessica Muhlin, Professor of Marine Biology and chair, Corning School of Ocean Studies, Maine Maritime Academy, for an in-depth discussion on the vital roles of seaweed followed by a visit to the shoreline. Meet at the end of Indian Bar Road.
Interactive Touch Tank
Join former Holbrook assistant ranger Kiera Luu and her partners at the University of Maine Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research as they lead you on an intertidal exploration of our beach. They will have an interactive touch tank on site to interpret the living creatures we encounter. This program is suitable for all ages! We will gather at the end of Indian Bar Road. Friends of Holbrook Welcome Day
Join the Friends of Holbrook Island Sanctuary to talk about what we do and what we hope to accomplish this season. A barbeque lunch will be on the grill, hot dogs and much more…Music will follow with Bobby Cleveland and Ron Corl. Gather at the parking lot at the end of Indian Bar Road.

Edible & Medicinal Plant Walk
Join Maine forager and author Tom Seymour as he leads a walk along groomed trails in search of early wild edibles. Tom will identify common forest, meadow, and seaside plants that have medicinal or nutritional value.
Water is provided. The walking session will last approximately 1-1/2 to 2 hours and cover a total distance of ¾ mile. Wear sturdy shoes.
